We are now proud to announce that all ZoomProspector Canada applications are now available in mobile optimized and fully featured formats, just like our U.S. applications. This means that they have been perfectly adapted to work on our smartphones and tablets, without losing any of the functionality of the desktop version. To see what this looks like, you can visit the Abbotsford ZoomProspector (B.C.) site from your smartphone. Or click here to see Spruce Grove, AB and Niagara Region, ON.

This is a pretty big deal. As GIS Planning's resident Canadian, I am keenly aware of the lag my countrymen and women typically experience whenever something new and cool emerges south of the border. Exposed to these new products and services in television, film and the social media posts of our family and friends, we've learned to bide our time and wait for such uniquely American wonders as Target, Chipotle and (sigh) Trader Joe's to make their eventual way up north. And even though we have plenty of wonderful, homegrown businesses and cultural events to celebrate and export (from Tim Horton's and Instant Pots to the world's best baseball bats ("Sam Bats") and Swedish Fish), we're nevertheless naturally curious about what our American friends and colleagues are doing.

This is equally true in economic development. GIS Planning invented and pioneered the use of online software for site selection and GIS data, and Canadian economic developers across the country were eager to implement when ZoomProspector Canada became available five years ago, and again when we introduced an updated interface in 2015.

Using Environics Analytics and InfoGroup Canada data, the tool aggregates commercial sites and properties with demographics, labour force (note the "u" in "labour"!), infrastructure, business, industry and GIS data in interactive,easy-to-use mapping interfaces. Canadian implementations of ZoomProspector use standard Canadian spelling and metric measurements to meet national standards. ZoomMtl.com, the tool launched in a joint venture by the Greater Montréal Metropolitan Community (Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal), Cargo M, the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montréal, and Montréal International, is the first completely bilingual (French and English) application of the software. Existing Canadian clients can reach out to support@gisplanning.com to ensure their tools are set up for mobile.
