By now you've seen the list of the lucky 20 finalists for a second Amazon headquarters. With the retailer promising an investment upwards of $5 billion and an injection of up to 50,000 jobs, 238 economic development organizations across the U.S. and Canada submitted proposals.

Is it possible to identify any factors that helped this group of 20 cities and regions distinguish themselves from the rest? Holly Sullivan, Amazon Public Policy, said that all the proposals showed "tremendous enthusiasm and creativity," but clearly there were elements that helped set this group apart. While the 20 finalists are a diverse group, but at least 13 of them have one thing in common: their locations are served byGIS Planning's online site selection data tools. That's an impressive 65% of the total group. We like to think their commitment to innovation, best practices and foresight is indicated by their choice of the gold standard in site selection software.
